Dads’ Resource Center sheds light on Domestic Violence Prevention Month
STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvania – (October 7, 2022) – For families who have experienced domestic violence, it’s unforgettable, as it robs people of their sense of trust and creates many problems. Unfortunately, it’s an issue that happens far too often. October is Domestic Violence Prevention Month, making it a great time to start the conversation about the topic and discuss ways fathers can help prevent domestic violence.
“It is the expectation of the Dads’ Resource Center that all fathers treat the mothers of their children, their children, and all women and children with respect, kindness, dignity, and grace,” said Dads’ Resource Center Executive Director Jeffrey Scott Steiner. “Let’s take the time this month to reaffirm those fundamental commitments.”
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, on average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the country. Domestic violence impacts men and women, as 1 in 4 women are victims of domestic violence, and 1 in 9 men are. Additionally, 1 in 15 children are exposed to intimate partner violence each year, and 90% of these children witness the violence.
Here are 4 ways fathers can help prevent domestic violence:
1) Make your family your top priority. Ensuring the safety and security, as well as the health and happiness, of his family is a man’s most sacred responsibility. A man’s role is to be the protector of his family.
2) Let your actions lead the way. How a father acts sets the tone for the entire family. He should be a role model in treating everyone, particularly women and children, with love and patience.
3) Take care of yourself. Everyone is under tremendous stress in this day and age. To be our best we need to take the time to care of our bodies and clear our minds. When you eat well, live healthy and do those things that help to clear your mind, you help yourself to be the best person possible for your family.
4) Learn more about and become involved in the domestic violence prevention movement. Be part of the collective effort to not only safeguard those who are vulnerable, but also to ensure that men understand their role and honor the commitment they have to their families.
“Dads’ Resource Center programs, provide interventions and services for those who are at risk of or are the victims of domestic violence,” continues Steiner. “It is important to recognize the many advocates who work and donate their time to safeguard and protect those who may be at risk of, or who are the victims of, domestic violence.”
Dads’ Resource Center was started by Dr. Myers, a father of eight and the founder and CEO of AccuWeather. Its mission is to help combat the issues associated with children growing up without their fathers in the home. At its heart, the center is a child advocacy organization that aims to ensure that each child has the appropriate involvement and contributions from both parents.
