22 Scars by C.M. North?

The Mommies Reviews

I would like to share a new book called 22 Scars by C.M. North? this book touches on a lot of issues dealing with mental health and may trigger people suffering from depression but it also can help people so before you judge a book by the cover I would like to ask you to check out 22 Scars which I received a PDF Copy of from the Author and Voracious Readers in exchange for this review.

22 Scars is a book featuring cutting, trauma, mental illness  rape, depression, and abuse making this a very dark book which for me was hard to read because of the things that happened to the characters. Not only that at times the story dragged and became confusing but I stuck to the book and finished it and it did get better but make sure you have some tissues on hand.

The author tells the story of 22 Scars from multiple perspectives making this a unique story, that helped the author develop the characters. Because of this, the story doesn’t simply deal with depression in one perspective but it shows how depression can be inherited when you don’t deal with your trauma, how failing to be there as a parent can have dire consequences which I’ve witnessed first hand with my best friend. The Author also shows us having a child to “fix” a relationship is probably one of the worst things you can do for a human.

About the book:

Raised with apathy and spite, Amy’s life is a monotonous drone of deep despair, broken only by coffee and nights out with her best—and only—friend. She battles depression daily, fighting to keep her sanity in a world that, to her, is set on destroying her soul. Her future is bleak, overcast with shadow and doubt; her past harbors terrible secrets that even those closest to her couldn’t begin to guess.

When tragedy strikes someone she holds dear, will she succumb to the crushing weight of despair, or will she find the strength to fight—to live? 22 Scars is a story of what it takes to live daily with depression—and how the scars of a lifetime can pass through generations and beyond. Can the past ever truly be forgotten? Can depression ever be beat?

Meet the Author: C.M. North?

C.M. North was born in the suburbs of Boston, MA, although he left there when he was two. He spent most of his childhood split between the soaring peaks of the Swiss Alps an the dark industrialism of northern England, and their scenery has left an indelible mark on his psyche and creativity.

He went to school in Sheffield, England, and earned a B.A. in Music Composition from the University of Sheffield. From there he somehow ended up returning to the stories he used to write as a child, and has spent most of the time since 2005 honing the craft of writing (though he says he’s a long way from a master yet).

He became severely depressed in his late teens, and this forms the basis for his first novel, 22 Scars. The story of a teenage girl suffering through catatonic depression in the wake of a tragic upbringing, it reflects many of the feelings and traumas that he lived through himself in those early, dark days.

He currently lives in northern New Jersey with his wife and son, and he firmly believes that without their support he would not be here today.
