This is Day 2 of the 10 Days of Homeschooling For First Year Families. We are going to be discussing different methods of Homeschooling.

10 Days of Homeschooling For First Year Families Day 1 Laws

By checking into different methods this will help you can make the right choice for your family. Before you begin  chose books for your  Homeschool andwhich you think are perfect for you and your children.

When you start to use these books  and find out they aren’t working for your family. I would like to let you know its okay to  scarp those books and go pick something else out.

This did happen with Charlie when we first started out because all I knew was to go to the local Book Stores and pick up workbooks for the different subjects I wanted to teach.

Since that day I have found out there are free websites I can use and also other Homeschooling Parents run blogs and have information and free Homeschooling  printable’s on there websites which we can use in our classrooms.

I would like to share  resources for you to check into. If  you have any questions I am here to help you and before you ask what happens if I don’t know the answer ?

I will find someone that does know the answer to your question and ask them to help you out. we all wan’t you to succeed in your Homeschooling journey just as we want to succeed in our own journey.

Methods!

  1. Charlotte Mason method of learning is built around the belief that children deserve to be respected and learn best from first-hand, real-life situations as well as narration.
  2. Classical Homeschoolers uses three phases of learning/thinking: Concrete, Analytical and Abstract and they are broken down into years.
  3. Eclectic is basically a hodge-podge of several different styles of learning. For our family I think this is where Charlie and I fit in. We use Free Printable’s. Along with Unit Studies we find online.
  4. Unit Studies take a specific area of interest and develop a study plan that covers all the major subject areas – Math, Language Arts (reading, writing, spelling, grammar), History, Science, Art, etc. Which is what  I would like to do with Charlie. Before I begin to use Five In A Row.
  5. Unschooling does not use curriculum or any scheduled or formal lesson plans. My mentor Thaleia uses this form in teaching her students. Check out Thaleia Maher blog Something 2 Offer.

If you would like to know more about the styles of Homeschooling your children you can check out Homeschool.com where you will see there are more than the 5 different ways I shared with you.

The reason I only shared 5 Homeschooling methods with you is because these was the 5 I knew of.

For the other types of Homeschooling I  would need to spend  time researching them and at this time I don’t plan on using those resources I didn’t look them up.

Another website I would like to invite you to check out is Parents.com.  On Parents.com is a article on  called Homeschooling Methods that which might be able to answer  more of your questions and if Parents.com doesn’t  help leave me a comment and I will see if I can find the answers to the questions you have.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
