10 Days of Homeschooling For First Year Families Day 1 Laws

Welcome to 10 Days of Homeschooling For First Year Families Day 1! Before anyone begins Homeschooling there children they need to know the laws. We’re going to be discussing the “LAWS” according to what we’ve found in our area. Please do your research and check out the links I’ve given to help you get started.

David and I had homeschooling Charlie from the beginning of Oct. through the end of 2nd grade. I didn’t think that would happen as Charlie was attending a Public School. Only due  to several incidents in Charlies school including “BULLYING” we ended up having to take Charlie into a counselor.

The counselor suggested we remove Charlie from school and begin homeschooling Charlie. Stating Charlie would be safer in our home than in the school.

Although, now we have returned to Public School but if these incidents happen again I will remove Charlie and return to Homeschooling as I feel more equipped and know I have the support and resources to teach Charlie at home.

I would like to let you know David and I didn’t go into Homeschooling Charlie without a lot of fears and doubts. Both of us were scared we wouldn’t be able to teach Charlie the way we need to.

David and talked about different things all the way home and I prayed David would come to the best conclusion for our family. Now, I didn’t ask David what he thought we should do as I knew he wasn’t a fan of Homeschooling but  the closer we got to our home the more at “PEACE” David seemed.

Low and behold we reach our street and David ask me if I am ready for this and I say what. David turns to me and says to “HOMESCHOOL” Charlie. with tears pouring down my face  I say yes, David I’m ready.

I know we can do this with the support of our friends and family we will be fine. David parks the car outside Charlies school. I turn to look at Charlie as he hadn’t heard what David and I had decided.

Charlie is as white as a Ghost and shaking like a leaf thinking he is going to have to go back to Public School. We walk into the school with our son and stand outside the office and we talk to Charlie before we go into the office.

We let him know were prepared to Homeschool Charlie beginning that day. We walk into the school and we withdraw him to the surprise of everyone in the school.

Once we knew Charlie had been withdrawn I felt such a peace and calm come over me. I knew that I was ready and that God had been preparing me for Homeschooling.

Throughout the next 10 days I will be sharing tips for 10 days of homeschooling for first year families. The tips you find in this article are tips and websites that I wish I had known when we began homeschooling Charlie.

Before I share these tips with you I would like to let you know I don’t know everything about homeschooling and I stumble everyday. Though  I know Homeschooling was the right step for my family at that time of our lives. If things change in the future if we find out Public School isn’t working for us we can resume Homeschooling Charlie by using schools  like K12 Virtual Academy or teaching Charlie ourselves.

Tips for Day 1 of Homeschooling your Student

Research the laws in your State or Homeschooling your students because  the laws are different in each State. Some States are much more strict than other States. I am in Texas and we do not have to notify anyone when we decide to Homeschool unlike other States.

Also we do not have to keep records but I have friends that have to document everything they do. Although I would recommend keeping records so you know what your doing and can show anyone who ask.

As we begin our day I would like to share some websites which you can check into that have the rules for Homeschooling in each State. On these websites they tell you what you need to do to make sure your following your States rules.

HSDLA  is one of my favorite sites because  there is a  State Map and you just click on your State and it list everything you need to be prepared to begin Homeschooling your children.

BrightHubEducation.com is a new website on here is a article titled “What are the State and Federal Requirements for Homeschooling?” Please, make sure you take the time to read this article. This website goes from Preschool through High School and on it is lesson plans and things to help you begin your Homeschooling classes.

HomeschoolingInTexas.com is the perfect website for my family as we are in Dallas/ Fort Worth. Homeschooling in Texas  gives me the information we needed  to begin Homeschooling Charlie. On Homeschooling in Texas  not only will you find the laws but also Forms you need in your Homeschooling. As well as the following articles to help you get started.

If your looking for homeschooling information for the great state of Texas? You’ve come to the right place! When you visit HomeschoolingInTexas.com parents in Texas have found that it is one of the best states in which to homeschool. The laws are favorable, you’ll find lots of support, and there is a never ending supply of things to do in this wonderful state.

A2ZHomeschooling.com is another website I  would recommend you check into as this site not only has information on the Laws in your State but for the resources they offer which includes free lessons we can do with our children.

Before you say I don’t have a Curriculum so I can’t Homeschool my child that isn’t true because you can find everything you need online by searching Google and using these resources and lesson plans you find in this article. I also have Homeschooling Freebies on my website.

Before I let you go check out Facebook by typing in Homeschooling and join some of the groups which will help you on your journey. Just Google Homeschool blogs and you can even do a Search for them in your State.

They would be happy to help you out. I also have a Homeschooling tab for bloggers on my website and do a weekly shoutout so just look around and let’s begin our Homeschooling Journey today.

I’ve given you a lot of information and sites to check into but the best way to find what will fit for your family is to research and read. Check out these sites I listed and if they do not feel right for you or they don’t offer the answers you’re looking for check out Google and YouTube and search for local Homeschooling groups in your area.

Don’t be afraid to make some phone calls and ask questions because you can never be too prepared when getting ready to Homeschool your children. One website or person may say one thing and someone else will tell you something completely different so always follow your instincts as this is your child or children you will be Homeschooling and there education. As well as your sanity.. Homeschooling can be fun as well as challenging.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
